PE

Why Physical Education is important
Physical Education (PE) at Haimo aims to develop the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing in our children now and for their future. Physical fitness and participation in sport is an important part of leading a healthier lifestyle. At Haimo our PE curriculum teaches self-discipline and that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience, and have the determination and self-belief to succeed. Children are encouraged to participate in a variety of sports in school, their talents are nurtured and with good community links, they are inspired to develop their abilities and love of physical activity within local teams.

How our Physical Education curriculum is designed
Pupils at Haimo participate in two lessons of high-quality PE every week taught by their class teacher.  We provide opportunities for children to receive coaching from PE specialists and sports leaders in a variety of year groups.  At Haimo we follow the National Curriculum, which is enhanced through the use of the ‘Real PE’ and ‘The PE Hub’ schemes of work. Children are exposed to a wide variety of sports and sporting activities throughout their time here.  All lessons are fully inclusive and appropriately differentiated.  Many sports are revisited in different year groups to ensure that previous skills are built upon to enable progress in our chosen sports. Our schemes of work incorporate broader skills such as tactics, sportsmanship, communication, problem solving, self-reflection and teamwork in lesson plans.

Children at Haimo will:

  • Develop their health and fitness with The Daily Mile
  • Be active throughout their school day through the Active Movement Scheme
